Place Value Contention
Comparing 4-Digit Numbers with a game of friendly rivalry between 2 players who share a goal to practice comparing 4-digit numbers together.
*Cut out and tape together the Place Value Card Mats.
*Use TWO decks of playing cards (one for each player)
Remove the Jokers, K, J, and 10 cards from the deck.
Make an agreement that Aces =1 and Queens = 0
*Each player flips over 4 cards to create a multi-digit number.
Build the number from the tens to the thousands on
the place value chart.
*Decide a way to best record the equation on your paper.
*The person with the greatest number gets to keep all the cards from the place value boards.
*Begin again following the same play format.
Turn over four cards filling the place value chart from the ones to the thousands. Determine the best way to record the equation on your paper.
Player with the greatest number wins the cards in play.
*IF the numbers are equivalent (or equal) in value, put the cards at the bottom of the deck and try again.
***Play until it is time to clean up.***
