This is a simple Place Value Game which can be played as a whole grade, in small groups or in pairs. Each players has a print out of the included table. When the dice is rolled each player writes in the number rolled on the dice in whatever place value column they want. After five (easy sheet) or ten (hard sheet) rolls, players compare their completed numbers to see who had the highest number.
This game works well when played between students and the teacher on the board as the teacher can model how placement of higher dice numbers towards the left hand side of the place value chart will yield the best results.
Because there is no foolproof way of winning it does open the discussion of chance alongside the use of strategy and understanding.
Both an easy (thousands to tenths) table and a hard (millions to thousandths) table is included.
