These are great for the first math lessons of the year if going over Place Value.
These are the place value activities that I use with my students in my fifth grade classroom. This Place Value activity pack contains:
--drawing to show their place value knowledge (my students love this every year!)
--problems where they must place a number in the correct place value position to figure out the mystery number (another favorite of my students each year)
--a 5 question writing assignment where students should explain the errors
--a tic tac toe game for partners to play with Xs and Os just like regular tic tac toe but with math!
--a Super Sleuth game (Each student receives a super sleuth paper and will find 8 students in their class to answer a question for them. I find that my struggling learners love this activity because they can choose a fractions problem they are certain about to solve for each person and it gives them a much-needed boost of confidence. My higher learners enjoy it because they try to solve a different problem each time and they often try to figure out difficult versions of the equivalent fractions to create. I love it because it gets kids moving, out of their seat, and interacting with their classmates for a quick activity.)
--Place Value Treasure Hunt where the paper ends by saying the treasure is “where we keep pencils!" Treasure hunts are always popular!!!
