Description

Hi-Lo is a popular go-to activity in my math class. Students try to beat the game by building five and six-digit numbers, one digit at a time. I teach Hi-Lo Place Value Game pretty much the first day of a new school year because it's a great way to warm up their math brains. It also gives me good information about my new group's understanding of place value, reading large numbers, and problem-solving.

Hi-Lo can be played as solitaire, in small groups or with an entire class. It's easily modified for younger kids, yet challenging enough for the older ones. (Differentiation ideas are included.) It would make a great addition to your substitute teacher plans!

Set includes Teacher Instructions, 4 different class game sheets, 2 with place-value headings, 2 with just the places. Game sheets may be cut apart for individual use or give everyone a whole sheet to keep in their math folders as a go-to activity.

Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.
