This place value mat is super handy and can be used for many different things. It should be placed in a sheet protector or laminated to be able to use with an expo marker. I use these at the beginning of the year to practice place value. As we write out numbers the students can visually see each digit in each place value. We use it to idenitfy the value of a digit in each place value and how that same digit has different values as it moves in the place value chart. We also use this chart for comparing or ordering numbers. For example: when comparing two numbers my students are taught to stack the numbers on top of each other on the place value mat. Then we work our way through the place values, beginning with the largest place value, to identify which number is greater. The bottom box is great to write out the whole equation or to draw base ten blocks as well. I use these all year long in many ways!
