Tier 1) 8 “sets” of matches. Thousands digits are all the same.
Hundreds, Tens and Ones digits are the same values but in different order. Ex. 7543, 7435, 7354 Needs higher attention to detail
Tier 2) 8 “sets” of matches. Thousands, Hundreds, Tens and Ones digits are the same values but in different order. Ex. 7543, 5437, 4375. Needs higher attention to detail
Tier 3) 8 “sets” of matches. Thousands, Hundreds, Tens and Ones digits are different on most cards. Ex. 7645, 3487, 9276. For those students still struggling to identify place value & extended notation
1) Print (use gray-scale if you don’t have a color printer)
2) Cut out each tier BEFORE giving activity to students.
3) Put each tier into a baggie or envelope. Laminate if you prefer.
4) Keep one original for yourself if you need a ‘key’
(quick note to teachers all clowns should be on the same side of the card on a match— this will help find glaring mistakes quickly but you’ll still need to check numeral placement.
5) Divide students into tiers and practice.
