This activity is structured to correspond to a Breakout EDU lock box. Students will collaborate and think critically to solve a collection of five different mathematical clues - each of which is designed to challenge them cognitively in order to open a lock on the box. This activity was created to review VA Mathematics SOL 4.1 and 4.3, but could be used for review or enrichment in other grades as well.
Students will review place value, expanded decimal form, and basic computation along with reasoning and number sense. The clues are engaging and the activity is motivating for upper elementary students.
Please note that you will need a Breakout EDU kit or an equivalent in order to complete this activity. The UV flashlight and USB drive included in the kit are not needed for this activity.
Detailed instructions are provided to allow you to quickly print and begin using this activity in your classroom!
