This set of 35 Quick Look cards can be used with students who are learning about place value. On each card, you will see a 10x10 grid, representing 100. You will also notice some bold black lines. These are to show halfway points across and down the grid. The cards become more and more challenging!
1. Show a card to students briefly – about 2-3 seconds! Hide the card. “How many shaded blocks do you think you saw?”
2. Students tell how many blocks they think are shaded in a number talk.
3. Ask students, “How did you think about it?” Students should explain how they arrived at the number chosen, using their understanding of place value and benchmark numbers such as 5, 25, and 50 (the bold lines) to explain.
Using a card each day will help your students develop NUMBER SENSE!
Check out the preview (it shows 30 of the 35 cards in this set)!
