Apply place value to partition, rearrange and regroup numbers to at least tens of thousands to assist calculations and solve problems (ACMNA073)
These puzzles are designed to reinforce children’s understanding of partitioning numbers in “traditional” ways and “non-traditional” ways. They help children to think about the same whole number in different ways. Quite often children will answer non-traditional partitions incorrectly as they have become accustomed to seeing only traditional partitions.
- Laminate, cut out and have children put the puzzles back together again.
- Hand out pieces of the puzzles randomly and have children find the rest of their puzzle. Winner is the first group to sit down.
- Give each child a puzzle and have them create the number using MAB/Base ten blocks for each partition shown.
- Blank puzzle included for the children to create their own puzzles.
