PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students explore various strategies based on the Common Core standards to learn place value to the thousands place.

Based on 2nd grade standards - appropriate for advanced 1st graders ready to move to the thousands place in place value or review for 3rd graders that need some extra place value help.

Purpose: To learn and apply the concepts of place value.

Features Include:
3 worksheets (10 problems each) - Given a number, students circle the number in the ones/tens/hundreds or thousands place.

4 worksheets (5 problems each) - Given multiple numbers, students circle the numbers with a specific number in a specific place (i.e., 3 in the tens place.) - 1 worksheet each for ones/tens/hundreds & thousands place.

4 worksheets (6 problems each) - Given multiple numbers, written in balloons, students color the balloons based on the directions (i.e., “Color the balloon with 3 thousands and 4 tens yellow.”)

1 worksheet (7 problems) - Given a number, students decide the value of a specific digit (i.e., the value of 5 in 2,354 = 5, 50, 500 or 5,000?)

3 worksheets (5 problems each) - Given clues for each digit and the place it is in, students must write the number (i.e., “What am I? I have 3 in the thousands place, 4 in the hundreds place, 2 in the tens place and 0 in the ones place.” - 3,420)

3 Worksheets (7 problems each) - Given two numbers, students compare the numbers using a greater than or less than sign.

2 Worksheets (7 problems each) - Students use their knowledge of place value to fill in the missing numbers to make the greater than or less than sentence true (ie., 1__7 > 1 __7.)

2 Worksheets (12 problems each) - Mental addition and subtraction practice (i.e., 30+40 and “Add 400 to 500” / 500-300 and “Subtract 2,000 from 6,000”) etc.

Zero Party Train Game/Practice - Given tiles with numbers, students choose 3 to place on the train to make an expanded form number and then write the number in standard form (3,000+200+4 = 3,204.)

Uses: whole group instruction, small group instruction, independent practice, workshop/centers, test preparation, homework, etc.
