I developed this game with my extended day fourth grade students to help them practice reading large numbers, identifying place value, and comparing large numbers. They loved it, and so I decided to create & share a more durable version of the game.
You play with digit cards and Punch! Challenges (which we pull out of a "punch" bowl). I included blank challenge cards in the preview, but the paid version includes 15 challenge cards as well as digit card masters. Students start with a one digit number, and gradually stretch it into a large number, reading it aloud at each turn. They gain points for meeting the Punch challenges, such as creating an even number or having the highest (or lowest!) number in the game. It's a great mixture of luck and strategy, and provides a lot of practice for translating standard form to word form through reading.
This game could be played whole group by splitting the class into teams, with table groups, with partners, or as a math center. I'd love to hear how it goes in your class! Easily adaptable for grades 3-5.
