This is an activity designed to encourage students to decompose whole numbers up to 100,000 using the different number forms; standard form, word form, base 10, expanded form, expanded notation, and number word form.
I teach this during whole group or Guided Math lessons and it then becomes a Guided Math station where the students roll number cubes or ten-sided dice to create their number.
One suggestion I would recommend is to teach students to draw the place value blocks, and place value disks interchangeably. My students do have a hard time when it comes to drawing the ten thousands and one hundred thousands blocks, so it's important to teach them to draw place value disks.
Overall, this is a great activity that encourages kids to represent numbers in a variety of ways!
