Let's have a Place Value Scavenger Hunt!
Ask students to place their heads down on the desk. No peeking!
While their heads are down, place the scavenger hunt cards around the room. Place some high, some low, maybe even some that are partially covered! When you’re ready, ask students to raise their heads and open their eyes.
Each student will have a Scavenge Hunt Record sheet. They may wish to place it on a clipboard, as they will travel around the room with it.
They’re trying to answer the riddle “Why is it hard to play cards in the jungle?” They’ll match the place value blocks on the scavenger hunt cards (located around the room) with one of the three digit numbers located on their record sheet. Place the corresponding letter in the blank. Allow students to move around the room solving the various place value problems on each card. Remind students to leave the place value cards where they find them. Students may choose to answer any card in any order, but make sure you find all of the cards in the room!
Once all of the cards have been found and letters recorded, they’ll be able to read the answer to the riddle!
