This game is one of my math students' all time favorites - a perfect blend of skill and luck! It's very simple to learn and still lots of fun! Using a deck of playing cards, students strategically place digits in a place value grid during a round in an attempt to achieve the number of greatest value. "Showdown" reinforces not only place values but number sense as well. It includes place values from hundred thousands down to the thousandths place The game is incredibly flexible. It can be played by any number of players and it can be made easier by reducing the number of place values. Students enjoy teacher participation when the game is played whole class in attempt to "trump the teacher". Only working on whole numbers? Turn the decimal into a comma and work up to the hundred millions place.
