I created this Place Value Slider because my 5th graders were having problems understanding the movement of the digits when multiplying and dividing decimals by powers of ten. I laminate the strips so that students can reuse the sliders throughout the year. It is a great in-class resource whether we are working in whole group, small group, or independently. It is also great for use at home and for studying.
I also found that for those students that are still struggling with whole number place value, the Place Value Slider was a great visual reminder for them.
It's easy for students to make and durable if printed on card stock. There is also enough space at the top of the Place Value Slider for whole punching. My students use binders for their ISN so the slider just slips right in.
