Students will build and break down numbers up to 100,000 to help teach and practice with place value. Students can build numbers by placing the strips one on top of the other to show numbers in standard form or take apart a number showing expanded form side by side.
This hands on activity is a must have when teaching place value as it gives students a hands on opportunity to manipulate and create numbers gathering a deeper sense of how numbers are built.
Print one for each student, cut out the strips and discard the grey parts. I laminated several copies for my own classroom use.
