This resource includes SIX sets of task cards to reinforce second grade place value skills.
Each set includes 24 task cards that are designed to dive deeper into place value concepts to reinforce conceptual learning.
If your curriculum expects students to work with numbers to 1200, I have included 6 bonus task cards in each set that work with numbers to 1200.
Although each set varies, each set of task cards include:
- a reference poster for the classroom (included in 5 out of the 6 sets)
- 24 engaging task cards to reinforce conceptual understanding
- Recording sheets to keep students organized
- Answer keys to make self-checking a breeze!
- 6 BONUS task cards (along with recording sheet and answer key) with numbers between 1000 and 1200. These are designed for curriculum that works with numbers to 1200.
Here is a description of each set of task cards:
Set #1: EXPANDED FORM - This skill will be reinforced in a variety of ways, such as expanding a number, looking at expanded form and identifying the number, and writing expanded form from a base 10 representation. The 24 task cards use numbers to 1000.
Set #2: HUNDREDS, TENS, AND ONES - This set of task cards reinforces composing/decomposing numbers in different ways. For example, the number 213 could be made using 2 hundreds, 1 ten, and 3 ones OR 2 hundreds and 13 ones. Practicing this concept will help your students achieve conceptual understanding of place value.
Set #3: COUNTING WITHIN 1000 - Counting within 1000 is much more than just filling in missing numbers in number sequences. This set of task cards dives into counting within 1000 using place value benchmarks. Students will practice counting in a variety of ways that reinforces conceptual learning.
Set #4: READ AND WRITE NUMBERS TO 1000 - Students will not only work with word and number forms, but they will also work with converting from base 10 representations and expanded form to word/number form as well.
Set #5: COMPARE AND ORDER NUMBERS TO 1000 - In this set of task cards, students will dive deeper into place value concepts to reinforce conceptual learning. Students will recognize that numbers can be represented by different combinations of hundreds, tens, and ones.
Set #6: SECOND GRADE PLACE VALUE SKILLS - Students will practice place value in a wide variety of different ways in order to maximize conceptual understanding. They will work with number charts, base 10’s, comparing & ordering, greater than/less than, number/word/expanded form, composing/decomposing, building numbers and more! This set of task cards is a combination of the skills practiced in the other 5 sets.
