This Math "Place Value rods " card game for first and second grade has 18 cards ~ 1 3/4 inches x 2 3/4 inches, or 4 1/2 cm x 6 1/2 cm. It is ready to print onto 8 1/2 x 11 in. card stock. The special features include a Start Card with a star shape for easy identification, and and End Card with Happy Hedgehog on it which will eliminate lots of frustration these types of games cause when the students and teacher do not know with which card to begin! Easy to use. My students can play this in small stations of three or four players. Once you've printed it, you may color the star and laminate the sheet prior to cutting out the cards.
Shuffle and deal out the cards to the students, and yourself, if you plan to play.
The student who had the Star Card begins and reads the card, including calculating the number of cubes, and asking for the second player to join in when she hears, "Who has 36?", continuing from there until all cards have been read and discarded.
To speed up the game, have students calculate the answers beforehand, writing the numeral in the small space beside the word "have".
