This all-in-one lesson includes guided questions and several documents about the Black Death. The lesson asks students to define the Black Death using their prior knowledge. Then, the teacher gives students one page of documents to read and analyze. After reading the documents, students are asked to refine their definition making reference to the documents. They repeat this process two more times before being asked to write a paragraph or two that references the documents.
The key idea behind this activity is to develop student document analysis skills, comparisons, and developing a thesis and referencing skills. It is easy to grade and engages students through the subject matter.
