Students will be planners of their own class field trip in this 4 day mini project. The format of this mini-project is laid out in a simple format that makes it easy for teachers and students to follow. Students will be given a budget to spend on their field trip. They will research costs of actual field trips in their area and calculate the total cost for students and teachers.
Day 1: Receive a field trip budget, research field trip options, cost, and educational purpose
Day 2: Determine students and adults attending the field trip and calculate total cost for each field trip option. Write equations to solve for total cost. Determine which field trips fit in the budget.
Day 3: Choose field trip location, calculate bus costs, determine if you went over budget and divide the excess out between all field trip attendants. Create an itinerary for the day.
Day 4: Write a letter to classmates about the field trip, detailing all of the information. Where, what, when, why, etc.
