Tell your students to pretend they’re in charge of planning a new community. This can be a fun art and writing project to do AFTER students learn about the three types of communities. I did this project in the fall with second graders.
I gave the students index cards to draw their buildings and a large sheet of chart paper to create their community on.
Afterwards, I had the students write a persuasive paragraph for why someone should come live in their community. Finally they presented their work to their classmates.
