At the end of the year I like to give my students real world math activities- this comes as one of my favorites from childhood... helping plan a road trip.
The lesson CAN be done in a week and be used in bits and pieces, but I have used it as a 2 week unit. The students loved working on the computers and really liked the freedom to pick their own areas to visit. Parents were also very excited by this project.
I worked in collaboration with my grade team partner for the journal prompts to touch on grade appropriate LIT skills as well as tapping into their work with regions of the US from their social studies class.
