Your students will have fun writing a children’s book that tells and illustrates a fictional story taking place on a planet. You can choose to keep the planet choices those within our solar system (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto?) and/or you can allow your students to choose other planets outside of our solar system that have been discovered. Some of my students LOVE that they can choose ‘the Diamond Planet’ or Gliese 581g, etc. because it really gets them excited coming up with a storyline. Some students are more comfortable choosing a planet within our solar system that they already know a little bit about.
This product includes both the print version and the Google Drive digital version so you can use it in either way, or blended!
This project includes teacher directions for sharing the document via Google Drive, the student directions, a student checklist to help chunk the assignment, research pages, a story map, a storyboard to help the students to plan pictures and text/dialogue, and the detailed grading rubric.
My students let their imaginations run wild and they get so creative. This helps them to "own" the planet and really understand it.
