We used this as a project to go along with Engage NY First Grade ELA Domain 6 Astronomy. It can be used after the planet lessons. It can also be used in any unit about planets.
There are 3 versions of facts on PDFs (you can have your class do any version you’d like – everyone doing the same version – or you can differentiate or let them choose).
Version 1 – easiest – matching b/c the planet name is there on the fact
Version 2 – the name is left off (they have to know which planet it will go with, but the number is there (so that will help w/ the sequencing of it)
Version 3 – no name/no number
There is a picture of a sample.
I would definitely PRE-ASSEMBLE the paper plate w/ the brass fastener – attached to the small 6 inch strip of cardstock. This way – the kids only have to glue on the long strip of cardstock to the small strip at the very end, once they finished sequencing it.
There is also a worksheet – you can use prior – to assist w/ the sequencing.
There is also a Smartboard file attached that has helpful directions for your class to do this activity.
