There is no better way to keep your students engaged than to give them opportunities to solve real world math and literacy problems!
This Holiday Unit does just that as students will be given a budget and they must choose 6 people to buy their holiday gifts for. The choosing of these gifts will be done using real advertisements from real stores. (I use the Black Friday advertisements and do this project the week after Thanksgiving)
The goal of this unit is for students to find items that various family or friends would want for the holidays. They must be sure to fit the items they will purchase into the given budget.
There are several different activities for your students to work through. But, the beauty of this unit is that you can choose what works best for your students in your classroom.
As your students work through this project, they will be involved with student choice as far as decisions and outcomes. By the end of the unit, students will have a unique project based on his individual creativity and priorities.
Happy Shopping, Happy Learning, and Happy Holidays!
