This packet goes with the 2011 National Geographic Science program for 3rd grade. It supplements information presented in the text, but takes the student engagement a step further by providing a study guide with important information for each lesson, vocabulary words and definitions, and a test addition that is based on the vocabulary and study guide.
We complete each section of the study guide the day after we read and discuss that lesson as a review before moving on in the chapter. Parents and students love having this resource as an aid when studying for the chapter test. Administrators love seeing student locate information in the text - a very valuable skill that truly becomes very important beginning in 3rd grade.
Our chapter 3 vocabulary is: consumer, producer, community, population, decomposer, and food chain. Students study the connection between plant and animal life in various habitats or ecosystems, and identify herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores.
Also included are
--> science activities for sorting animals into herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores;
--> a resource for building food chains;
--> a vocabulary activity using context clues to practice with chapter vocabulary;
--> a science reporter template for student research on ecosystems;
--> a SPLAT game for identifying characteristics of different ecosystems;
--> a matching game for identifying characteristics of different ecosystems;
--> ecosystem poster-making activity
--> black line versions of all color materials
Answer keys are provided for the test addition, all activities, and the study guide!
