Product Description

This set of printables is a new updated version of the oldie but goodie worksheets for the Plants Unit. These new printables are an excellent way to supplement your existing Science curriculum. In no way, it is intended or designed to replace it. It is about giving your classroom a great sense of personalization.

Now it also includes several foldable - a fun, visually stimulated way for students to organize information. The possibilities of how to use these foldables are probably endless, and most importantly they are suitable for different age groups of students. As you go along with these mini no-prep activities/ worksheets, you will notice that some are truly portfolio-worthy creations that students can keep to study from or reference for a long time to come.

If you like to implement Arts in Science as much as I do, then this mini set of handouts will also be perfect for your classroom. The simple act of coloring is said to help with relaxation and reduce stress because coloring is simple, stress-free and non-competitive. Wielding a crayon, pencil or coloring implement of choice facilitates the development of fine motor skills. Learning to stay inside the lines is not just aesthetically pleasing; it also activates both the logical and creative hemispheres of the brain and helps improve hand-eye coordination. Moreover, choosing and applying colors also requires memory skills, creativity, logic, and planning as well as a sense of visual and spatial awareness. Also, completing a piece of coloring provides a sense of worth as well as encouraging multisensory creativity and artistic expression, which is linked to the development of essential social, emotional and cognitive skills.

In addition to the printables for your students, you will find the teacher’s guide which aims to inspire you with how to use these worksheets and provided some guidance along your journey. Consider differentiating the activities based on the skills and abilities of each student. The sections of this file might seem either too advanced or too simplistic for your particular class, but please consider using just what you feel is appropriate for your students. As you may know, cellular biology is very complex. Therefore, the emphasis is not on the complex terminology, but instead, the pursuit of an understanding of the role of the cell and its organelles, and their place within the context of an entire organism.

The PDF file (print only) is divided into sections:

- the structure of the cell worksheets to identify the following organelles: chloroplast, vacuole, cell wall, cell membrane, Golgi body, mitochondria, cytoplasm, nucleus, nucleolus, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and to describe their functions (possible key answers included);

- plant tissue reading comprehension worksheets (possible key answers included);

- interactive vocabulary foldables with words to explain: plant, cell, tissue, chloroplast, vacuole, cell wall, cell membrane, Golgi body, mitochondria, cytoplasm, nucleus, nucleolus, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), xylem and phloem, meristematic tissue, permanent tissue, apical meristem, lateral meristem, intercalary meristem, simple permanent tissue, and complex permanent tissue (possible meanings included).
