This is a friendly letter from Mrs. Plant Cell. It is an entertaining way for the students to learn about the parts of the plant cell, and what each part does for the cell. After reading this, I had my students use the friendly letter format to write a letter explaining the parts of an animal cell, and how it is different from the plant cell. They really enjoyed this activity. They were able to practice using the friendly letter format, and show understanding of the parts of cells. We used this idea a springboard to having the students work in groups to write and perform a skit showing the jobs of the plant cell. They were very creative. It helped my students remember the cell parts and their jobs.
