This lab is a basic investigation to explore plants.
Three stations guide students in looking at plants in different ways.
There is no "starting" station, so students can be staggered. The three stations are:
Station 1: Leaf Identification (students interact with plant ID books and dichotomous keys (you must provide))
Station 2: Microscopic Investigation (students employ a microscope and hand lens to take a closer look at plant structures)
Station 3: Labeling and Measuring (using a ruler and scale, students measure and record different physical attributes of the plants their investigating)
Students glue the small instruction sheets into their lab notebooks. The larger direction sheet is placed on the table where the station will take place.
This is the first assignment of a longer unit exploring plants.
Students can bring in their own plants and plant material or teacher can provide. Plant Identification guides must be provided by the teacher.
