Students beginning to write paragraphs often have difficulty staying “on topic.” The first activity in this packet has students deciding whether the sentence provided is “on topic,” or “off topic.” On the next page students are given three supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. They will have to come up with a topic sentence on this page. The third page provides a topic sentence, so that the students have to come up with three supporting sentences and a concluding sentence. On the next two pages students are given a question, and they must respond by writing a full paragraph independently. The last page is a template for writing a science paragraph.
