These puzzle pieces are a great way to deepen student understanding of plant parts and their functions. Simply print, laminate, and cut the puzzle pieces. This can be done in a whole group, in a small group, or independently. I cut all of the puzzle pieces and combine them in one container. Students then have to piece together the plant part, with the matching picture, and the plant part function explanation. There are a total of 8 puzzles. Separate puzzles are included for these plant parts: seed, roots, sprout, stem, leaves, flower, pollinator, and the life cycle.
I use these puzzles in first grade to align with the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These can also be used in kindergarten as an extension or in upper grades to review plant parts and their functions.
