Students will have 4 assigned tasks. Depending on the desired project length and time spent each day in class, this project should take anywhere from 3-8 weeks. My class works on it for 25 minutes a day, so it takes about 2 months.
Task 1: Students research both plant and animal cells, organelles, and functions. They use the note-guide provided to use for future tasks.
Task 2: Students create 2 separate Power Point project (one plant and one animal). Students will compare plant/animal cell organelles to something in real-life using pictures and justifications.
Task 3: This is a 2-part task to create a fictional city. Students will begin by creating a large blue-print of their city on large sheet of paper. City functions will be matched with organelle functions (i.e. government center/nucleus) Then, students will create a brochure persuading others to come to their city using same organelle/city function (students can really get creative using giant trampolines, water park, etc) --they have fun with this (as long as it can be justified to the organelle function)!!
Task 4: Students will create a 3-D cell bringing in products from home. They must label the organelle.
