Plants ~ A Science Mini Unit using Poetry, Reading, & Writing ~ Plants
Your students will be experts at the concept of "Plants" when they get to do these fun activities for Poetry, Reading, Writing and Science
! You can make 2 weeks full of learning about plants! This product is packed full
of engaging lessons!
Your students will love reading/singing the poems: What do Plants Need? and Seed, Sprout, Flower. The will enjoy acting out different things that plants need to grow. They love to find sight words in the poem, and the small version of the poems gives them that opportunity. Just print, laminate and give them dry erase markers! You can also show the poems on the smart board or promethean board during Word Work time, and they can circle or highlight the words and chunks!
The poetry pages are a great addition to their poetry notebooks. They will have fun creating the parts of the flower and sequencing it's growth on the Seed, Sprout, Flower poem! They will also enjoy coloring/cutting/gluing what a plant needs on the What do Plants Need? poem. Read the poems during Shared Reading and use to reinforce vocabulary, HFW and chunks!
Your kids will labeling the parts of the flower using the interactive poster, as well as labeling the things that plants need to grow using the interactive poster. They can also put the cards in the pocket chart during whole group time or in stations. Read the Flower Labeling powerpoint during Shared Reading to help with the parts of the flower. The Life Cycle activities are also a hit for them to sequence in a pocket chart. The poster is great to have up for the kids to refer to as they make their own Life Cycle pages. The Plants Anchor chart will be great to use to reinforce Labeling and What Plants Need to Grow activities.
There's a variety of writing activities that your kids can do:
1. An interactive flip book about what plants need to grow: it's front to back and only uses 3 pages (directions are included)
2. A construction paper book to create what plants need.
3. Three different sizes of "no prep" books to xerox and use with this activity..
There is a Powerpoint file that the students can read that gives the steps to planting a seed. We read this during Shared Reading, make a little student reader, and actually plant seeds in a cup to watch grow and take home later. The kids love planting, watering and watching their plant grow!
The thumbnails show you all that is in the file! Please look at the preview to see it in "action"! 127 pages of Plant fun for your students!
