This is not just any 'ole puzzle. It doesn't just include words. It includes facts (definitions) about terms related to plants that your students will enjoy reading. I call it a 'fact find'. Within each fact, a word (or words) is underlined. Those are the words the students will find in the puzzle.
For example, one part says, "Did you know that without plants, nearly all life on Earth would end? That’s right! Plants provide oxygen for humans and animals to breathe. They also provide food for many animals." The word 'oxygen' is underlined and that is the word students will find.
In this 'all about plants' themed word search puzzle, words are found forward, backward, up, down, and diagonal. I would consider it on the challenging side since students are looking for words in all directions. They are also practicing reading skills, so if you have weaker third grade readers this may not be suitable for their ability level. Some more difficult words might be words like carnivorous and photosynthesis.
I use word searches to introduce vocabulary, or even just give it as morning work. Perfect for a sub, too.
There are many options for using this word search 'fact find'.
