Next Generation Science Standard (NGSS) addressed in this packet:

Grade K: Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems: Animals, Plants, and the Environment

K-ESS2-2: Construct an argument supported by evidence for how plants and animals (including humans) can change the environment to meet their needs.

I project the 7 photographs in this packet onto my classroom whiteboard to facilitate discussion. For each slide, ask students 3 questions:
1. What is the environmental change?
2. Who or what made the change?
3. How does the change meet the needs of the plant, animal, or human that made the change?
The 7 environmental changes include 1 change made by a plant, 3 made by humans, and 3 made by animals.
There are 3 follow up worksheets where students have to draw an environmental change created by a plant, animal, or human – answer key provided.

Make a beaver lodge! Patterns included to create a 3-dimensional "pond" and 2 3-dimensional beavers (see photo above). Lodge can be made out of strips of brown paper, brown yarn, real twigs, etc. This is a fun way to wrap up the unit!
