Plants Art Bundle | Themed Scripted Afterschool Activities

Appreciate nature with two thoughtful, plants themed art activities. Scripted lessons make it easy for new teachers or group leaders to teach without extensive training. Activities
- Tree Ring Timeline: Every tree has a story to tell as does every person. First, teach students how tree rings tell the life story of a tree. Then help students tell their own life stories in the form of a Tree Ring Timeline. Students learn how to shade with pastel chalk while creating this unique and meaningful work of art.

This scripted activity is written in two parts. In the first part, group leaders teach students about tree rings using the worksheet "A Slice in Time" (answers included) and students begin their projects. In the second part, students learn how to use pastel chalk and add texture to their works of art. If time is limited, this 2 hour activity can easily be broken up into two 1 hour sessions or four 20-30 minute sessions. A photo of a completed project is included with the lesson.

- A Slice in Time: When was the last time you stopped to really look at a tree? Foster your students appreciation of trees with the scripted art activity, Tree Sensations. In this lesson students will use four of their five senses to closely observe trees and write descriptive words to record their experiences. The observation worksheet "Under a Tree..." is included and can be used with a variety of artistic techniques such as sponge painting or mosaic. A photo of a completed project using sponge painting is included.
