The lessons included in this upper elementary life science unit is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards for 5th grade.

The topics explored in this booklet cover:

- the cycle of energy transfer between plants, consumers, and decomposers

- how plants create energy through photosynthesis

- how consumers get that energy through what they eat.

- understanding of how decomposers contribute to the cycle
