Included in this set are four labs designed to meet the NGSS first grade standards for plants and animals:
-Use materials to design a solution to a human problem by mimicking how plants and/or animals use their external parts to help them survive, grow, and meet their needs.
-Read texts and use media to determine patterns in behavior of parents and offspring that help offspring survive.
-Make observations to construct an evidence-based account that young plants and animals are like, but not exactly like, their parents.
The labs included are as follows:
-Why do birds have different beaks?
-Observing "Baby" Plants
-Do you hear what I hear?
-Mixed Up Baby Animals
All of the labs are hands-on and first grade friendly. The labs require some materials, but most of them are common classroom objects such as arts and craft supplies. The labs can be completed in groups, individually, in pairs, or as a whole group depending on your specific classroom needs. Each lab includes the materials needed, directions, and reflection questions.
