Here is a bundled unit for Plate Tectonics. I use this with my 7th grade Science students in order to prepare them for 8th grade. It covers above and beyond Mississippi's Science frameworks, but I feel they need more than their grade's objectives in order to fully understand :) I have also included a PDF file as well as an open office version of note pages and supporting articles used to teach this lesson just in case you wish to change anything yourself.
Ideally (and in my opinion) this is a great advanced lesson for 6th grade in Mississippi, an on target lesson for 7th grade, and a good introductory lesson for 8th grade. It also works well as a refresher for Earth Science in high school!
It covers the following grades & objectives:
6th Grade: EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCE
4. Establish connections among Earth’s layers including the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere.
a. Compare and contrast the relative positions and components of the Earth’s crust
b. Draw conclusions about historical processes that contribute to the shaping of planet Earth.
7th Grade: EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCE
4. Describe the properties and structure of the sun and the moon with respect to the Earth.
b. Explain the causes and effects of historical processes shaping the planet Earth
8th Grade: EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCE
4. Describe the Earth’s System in terms of its position to objects in the universe, structure and composition, climate, and renewable and nonrenewable resources.
a. Compare and contrast the lithosphere and the asthenosphere.
b. Describe the cause and effect relationship between the composition of and movement within the Earth’s lithosphere.
