Plate Tectonics / Earth's Crazy Crust / Full Unit with Smartboard Slides and Powerpoint Slides (Converted from Smartboard)
Includes all lesson handouts needed (guided notes, formative assessments, and teacher test w/ key).
I can analyze the makeup of the earth's crust, the forces that change and shape it, and the effect of those forces over time.
Lesson Sequence (Lessons are labeled in order in the .zip file! Each lesson is ~20-50 slides long. Most are multi-day lessons. Possible research resources are included in the .zip file)
Lesson 1: Continental Drift + Pangaea
Lesson 2: Layers of the Earth
Lesson 3: Earth's Crazy Cracked Crust
Lesson 4: Subduction and Sea-Floor Spreading
Lesson 5: Plate Boundaries (Convergent, Divergent, Transform Fault)
Lesson 6: Plate Boundary Case Studies
Lesson 7: Full Teacher Test with Key
Lesson 8: Performance Task - Using Clay to Model Plate Boundaries
Fantastic unit for sixth grade students or any students that need gradual concept development. Rather than just launch into plate boundaries, this unit starts with the history of plate tectonics and how scientists know what they know about the earth.
**How to use this unit. Please read!
Each lesson has a presentation (Smartboard or Powerpoint) with slides that follow a learning target or objective for that lesson.
Some of the lessons are multiple days. Each "day" begins with a set of questions (1-3) that follow from the previous day's lesson. Although we don't say specifically "Day 1" or "Day 2," you can see the cut-off when you see the introductory questions.
You will need to go through each one of the lessons before you teach so that you know how to set the pacing. Not every slide includes specific "teacher notes" for that slide. We are making the assumption that you know the material. If you do know the material, the progression of lessons and the slides within each lesson will make sense to you.
