This is a web-quest for students who enjoy research presentations. Webquests are online research projects where students are given some type of role-play to stick to throughout the project. This one tasks students with researching a tectonic plate boundary of their choosing and details exactly what should be included.
Links to resources are included in the file. Websites include PBS, the National Parks Service, and similar family friendly sites.
Personally, I use this as an assessment to end their Plate Tectonics unit. It is also a great time to go over proper research and presentation techniques. The students are always excited to work in groups and I have found it does work better when there is a 3 to 4 person team on this in Middle School and possibly 2 in the High School.
There is a rubric for students and teachers to follow for grading and for expectation purposes on a 1-4 scale. The three topics being graded are:
Info on the plate boundary
Quality for the presentation
Position on Evacuation
