GREAT for FINE MOTOR!!
Snowman Mats: The snowman themed mats have snowballs….so I just have the kids roll little balls with white play dough to make the snowballs.
Valentine Mats: The valentine themed mats have hearts, so I just bring in some heart shaped cookie cutters and let them roll out the play dough and cut out hearts to match the numbers on the mats.
Leprechaun Mats: The March themed mats have shamrocks. So you can either find some shamrock cookie cutters, not so easy, or let the kids roll green balls and “squish” them with their thumb to cover the shamrocks. Someone I taught with had a few shamrock cutters, but I have to say they like rolling balls and squishing them just as well!
Beach Mats: Read the sentence and add the play dough objects!
Frog Mats: Fill the Ten Frames with green dough balls and squish them as you count. I have also let the kids fill the ten frames with little plastic bugs.
Zoo Mats: You can put out some animal cookie cutters and let the children roll dough and cut out the correct number of animals for each mat and put them in the cages at the zoo.
I have also used these for counting mats with little plastic zoo animals or animal crackers!
Arctic Mats: Use a snowflake cookie cutter to make the correct number of snowflakes!
Mrs. Claus’ Cookie Tray Mats: Use dough and Christmas shaped cookie cutters to make the correct number of cookies on each tray.
The Gingerbread Man Mats: Use some brown dough (it’s fun to scent the dough with a ginger spice for an aroma) and roll out the correct number of gingerbread men!
Rainy Day Mats: Use play dough to make raindrops on each mat.
