The play writing activity is an additional writing resource for teachers to use while doing a novel study. The activity allows the students to tell a portion of the novel in their own words in an illustrated format. The text should be written as a script with lines by the characters and the narrator.
The instructions of the activity allow the students to either rewrite a scene in their own words or write an adapted version. In the pre-writing section, students are provided with a 12-point writing plan so their story stays on track. On the rough draft pages, the lines are exactly the same size and space as what they are for the good copy so there will be less room for error. The final draft page should be printed double-sided on three pages of paper. The final copy should be twelve pages in total.
