Play-dough CVC Smash is the perfect way to make learning the short vowel sounds fun and engaging. Your students will create a ball of play-dough for each phoneme, then as they sound out each letter they will smash the ball of play-dough. Afterwards, there is a picture choice to help check for comprehension. This is a great activity for those kinetic learners or for those students who rush through their reading and need a little extra motivation to slow things down.
A few examples of the words:
Short /a/ : mat, cap, cat, fat
Short /e/ : web, wet, red, bed
Short /i/ : pin, lid, lip, zip
Short /o/ : cob, sob, dog, jog
Short /u/ : tub, sub, bug, hug
Each card can be cut out individually and organized into a 4x6 photo storage container from Hobby Lobby or placed in a three ring binder.
