I love this grading scale. I had it posted and used it for years. Instead of telling a student, "You made a 98," you get to tell them, "That was GREAT!" Instead of, "That's a 85," you can say, "That was OK." The students liked the scale and it became very popular. The students would often say, "That was very good!" (And I might have responded with, "Well, I think it was excellent!") It allowed a little less tension in the grading process. As an aside, if my students do not like their grade, they can always play it again before the end of the nine weeks for a higher grade--giving them opportunity to practice, improve, gain mastery, etc. of the skill.
