Social Stories are beneficial for helping children with an autism spectrum disorder learn how to deal with a particular challenge. One big challenge they tend to have is getting upset if they do not win. This can cause other children to then distance themselves from the child. This packet includes the following:
- A full-size book that can be read to the entire class. This is helpful if you are doing a unit for the whole class to work on how to act when you win or lose.
- A half-sized book that can be laminated and stored either in a desk or in the classroom library.
- A one-page copy of the story to put in a page protector to be stored in a 3 ring binder. This is convenient for storing other stories.
- A student book version where the children can color black and white pictures from the story. Normally I have a student book with blank pages for the children to draw, but this story is hard for children to draw pictures.
This is a good activity to do at the beginning of the school year when teaching children to say the Pledge of Allegiance.
