Are you and your students tired of filling out plot maps? Achieve the same assessment results with a fun activity that is still rigorous, but also allows your students to be creative!
These DIFFERENTIATED plot cartoons (or comic) work for any text or novel. 6 cells are on each page. You can use one page for a quick retelling, both pages for a longer retell, or make more copies of page 2 for a more indepth retelling.
One version is a retelling of the story with key events following the parts of plot.
A more rigorous version asks students to also include how the characters responded or changed during the key event. This extra step helps students to meet the demands of Common Core RL.3.
The two versions look the same so you can easily differentiate within the same class without calling attention to the two different options.
This would also be a great option for a book report project!
Students are asked to retell a story in chronological order, but while including at least one event at each part of plot. Students are also asked to give a detailed description of each cartoon cell as well as list the part of plot that the event falls into.
What makes this product even better? There is a rubric that alligns to Common Core State Standard R.L.3. Students evaluate their own work before turning it in to see if they achieved the expectations. 2 separate rubrics for the 2 separate plot cartoons.
This can be used as an individual assignment, station work, partner or group work, small group instruction, or even an assessment. This is also generic in that you can use it over and over with multiple texts throughout the year.
