PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This exercise is a creative, interactive and fun way to introduce and teach the elements of the narrative plot chart. Students will work in groups to write progressive short narratives that follow the plot chart sequence. Teacher will use these narratives as a springboard to an understanding of the elements and sequence of the narrative plot chart.

ACADEMIC OBJECTIVES (All Students Will Be Able To):
1. Work together in groups to construct brief narratives
2. Present their narratives to the class
3. Understand the elements of the plot chart
DIRECT INSTRUCTION AND CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:
 Teacher Explains and Facilitates “Picture Pass Exercise” (PPT GUIDED)
 Student sit in groups of 6 in a circular pattern
 Teacher hands out packet of 6 different pictures to each group and each student takes a different picture
 Teacher explains to students that they are going to write a story by answering each question in 1ST PERSON on the backside of the paper of their picture
 After the 1ST question is answered, each student passes their picture one person to the right, read the story as it is written thus far and continue the story by answer question #2, continue the process through question #6
 After the writing portion of the exercise is complete, each group will share their stories within their group and choose one to share with the class.
 Each group will present their favorite story to the class as the teacher shows the picture on the PPT
 Teacher lectures on the elements of the narrative plot chart
 Review the 6 questions that prompted the picture pass exercise and use PPT to connect them to the plot chart
 Use the comic as an example of the plot chart sequence
 Teacher explains homework
 Students use a plot chart diagram to outline the elements of a narrative story
