These are a series of plot maps that gradually become more complex for students as they grow as a reader. All include the basics of introduction, climax, and solution or ending with series of actions to tell the story. The 6th grade one only has 3 rising and falling events, the 7th grade 4 and the 8th grade 5. This requires the students to think more about the details in the text as they are progressing as readers. The 7th grade map also asks students to identify the conflict in the text. The 8th grade map asks for the setting, conflict, and theme to be identified. These are simple yet very important as it can be difficult for students to plot out the events of a story and see why and where the story changed. They don't need to be used at that specific grade level, one could be used as a challenge for a higher achieving student at the higher grade level. It depends on where you students are and what you want them to be able to tell you. These also work great because each shows if the student can plot the text no matter what the text level so a great tool for differentiation!
