Students can use this plot profile worksheet to fill in the events of the plot as well as other general story elements of stories they read. The plot profile (based on Freytag's Pyramid) is outlined on the page with boxes placed around it for students to fill in the parts of the plot, including the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. There are also boxes for students to fill in information about the setting, characters, conflict, and theme.
Using this worksheet will help students to become increasingly familiar with the parts of plot and other story elements. Additionally, it will help students better understand the stories they read. As they continue to practice filling out the plot profile worksheet, they will learn to think about story elements as they read.
You can fill in the worksheet as a whole class or students may work in pairs or individually to complete it. Your students can fill it out as they are reading the story, after they have finished the story, or it can even be used as an assessment.
This worksheet could also be used as a graphic organizer for narrative writing.
